War always fell on our shoulders.

The weight of our parents' guilt and greed

always fell on our shoulders,

but our history books don't show it.

While our records recount the men that went off to war

and censures the womxn left behind,

it ignores the eldest daughter

a confidant

a hand

a heart

a pair of young feet

a warm body.

It forgets that while adults had to fight wars,

someone had to raise these kids

someone has to make the food

someone had to build lives

out of Nothing.

Who

Who

Who.
